Immunological aspects of immunodeficiency diseases part 77

Patients with partial or complete STAT-1 deficiency, which impairs the signaling via the IFN-γR results in susceptibility to mycobacteria of low grade virulence. Complete STAT-1 deficiency also impairs signaling via type 1 interferon receptors, which predisposes to life-threatening herpes viral infections occuring in childhood. The commonest infections that affect patients with defects in the IL-12/23 are extraintestinal or septicemic, relapsing infections with non thphoidal Salmonella species.
