Conformational changes of antigens on beads

Artificial attachment of an antigen to a bead may result in conformational changes of the protein, potentially leading to exposure of epitopes not normally found in vivo (neoepitopes), yielding false-positive results, or concealment of immunologically relevant epitopes (cryptic epitopes), giving false-negative results.
