Antibody testing to identify the correct donor
Despite historical associations of high panel reactive antibody with immunologically poor outcomes, studies with these improved technologies have shown that patients with high panel reactive antibody but not donor-specific HLA antibody have graft and rejection-free survival comparable with unsensitized recipients. Virtual crossmatch compares recipient antibody specifities with donor antigens permitting rapid and earlier identification of donor-specific HLA antigen - negative donors in deceased donor acceptable mismatch strategies and living donor paired exchange programs worldwide.
