Being a living kidney donor means having major surgery. This always carries a risk of serious complications including death.
Complications that may occur during surgery include:
- punctured lung (pneumothorax)
- Lung infections (pnemonia)
- Nerve damage
- Blood clots (thromboembolism)
- Bowel perforation
- Bleeding
