Immunological aspects of immunodeficiency diseases part 25

The commonest defect (in approximately 10% of CVID patients) is a mutation of the  gene TACI (transmembrane activator and calcium  modulator and cyclophilin ligand interacter). TACI, which belongs to the TNF-receptor superfamily, is a ligand for the cytokines, BAFF (B-cell-activating factor of the TNF family) and APRIL (a proliferation-induced ligand), which induce immunoglobulin class-switch recombination.
