Immunological aspects of immunodeficiency diseases part 3

From clinical perspective, immunodeficiencies can be classified into eight categories. Each category has a characteristic pattern of clinical presentation, which will elaborated later.

Operational classification of immunodeficiency states;

• Immunodeficiency due to defective anatomical or  physiological barriers to infection
• Deficiency of opsonins (antibody deficiency and complement deficiency)
• T-cell deficiency
• Combined T- and B-cell deficiency
• Phagocyte deficiency
• Defects in macrophage activation
• Defects in immunoregulation
• Defects in homeostasis of inflammation
