Lipid in chronic kidney disease part 2

Management:
  • In adults with newly identified chronc kidney disease, evaluation with a fasting lipid profile is recommended
  • Consider secondary causes and specialist evaluation if severely elevated fasting lipid levels (LDL-cholesterol>4,9 mmol/l or triglyserides >11,3 mmol/L)
  • Follow up measurement of lipid levels is not required for the majority of patients
  • If aged≥50 years  with any stage of chronic kidney disease (irrespective of lipid levels):
#Statin if eGFR is>60ml/min/1,73m2
#Statin or statin/ezetimibe combination if eGFR is ≤60ml/min/1,73m2
  • If age <50 years with any stage of chronic kidney disease (irrespective of lipid levels), statin if presence of one or more  of coronary disease, previous ischaemic stroke, diabetes or estimated 10 years incidence of fatal or non fatal myocardial infarction above 10%
  • Lifestyle advice if hypertriglyceridaemia is present
