Risk factors for acute kidney injury:

Pre-existing risk factors:
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • Other chronic disease (diabetes, cancer, anaemia, heart/lung/liver disease)
  • Advanced age
  • Female gender
Modifiable kidney insults:
  • Hypovolemia (sepsis, critical illness, circulatory shock, burns, trauma)
  • Drugs
  • Radiocontrast agent
  • Poisonous plants and animals (e.g. snakes, spider)
