Restless legs in chronic kidney disease




Restless legs syndrome is common in chronic kidney disease.  As many as 8 in 10 people with eGFR < 15ml/min/1.73m2 have restless legs syndrome or a related movement disorder called periodic limb movements in sleep

Management:
  • Check iron status and replace if deficient
  • Home therapies such as massage, warm baths, warm/cool compresses, relaxation techniques, exercise
  • Dopaminergic agents or dopamine agonists
  • Benzodiazepins
