However, a word of caution is warranted. These hybridoma clones can sometimes partially lose their antibody production so that they are no longer secrete as much antibody as before and may even stop also lose their specificity so that a given hybridoma line must be checked periodically against original antigen too determine whether production or specificity remains the same as the original clone. The use of monoclonal antibodies has expanded enormously in the past ten to fifteen years. They may be "huma nized" by the introductionof human heavy and light chains so that they can be used as therapeutic agents in many human diseases, ranging from rheumathoid arthritis to many forms of cancers.
