Pediatric kidney transplantation part 172

CERVICAL CANCER

What is it and how does it occur?

The cervix is where the uterus joins the vagina. Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers found in women. It affects women with transplants more than three times as often. The most common type, squamous cervical cancer, may be caused by a sexually transmitted disease, the human papilloma virus (HPV). This virus causes genital warts as well. A vaccine against human papilloma virus is available and recommended for all kidney ransplant recipients, both male and female.
